Local Beaches

Penkerris is within walking distance of three beaches.

Trevaunance Cove is only 1km away.  There are boats pulled up to the top of the beach and some of the locals go fishing.  It is comfortably commercialised with 3 car parks, toilets, one or two shops, a craft centre, a pub, two restaurants, beach huts and cabins.  There are the ruins of an old harbour and many little rock pools where children can see small crabs, fish and sea anemones.  It is a very safe beach, with lifeguards and considered safe even at low tide. Trevaunance Cove is good for surfing when rough and for swimming when calm . You can hire boards at the beach. There are beach huts for hire. We, Penkerris, own a beach hut and guests may borrow it if required .

Chapel Porth, absolutely magnificent with towering cliffs, huge caves, many pools (some quite deep) and soft golden sand.  The cliff path above this beach is glorious and you will see the ruins of Wheal Coates - one of the most photographed old Engine Houses in Cornwall.  Chapel Porth beach is always good for surfing.. There are toilets at the National Trust car park and a small café.  Lifeguards are on duty during the summer.

Trevellas Porth is small and “far from the madding crowd’. There are no facilities – no toilets, no café, no beach guards. You really can ‘get away from it all’! The best way to reach it is along the cliff path from Trevaunance Cove.

Pleasant trips within easy reach of St Agnes

St Agnes is almost midway along the spectacular north coast of Cornwall and less than an hours drive to visit any of the attractive harbour towns on both the north coast  eg Padstow, Boscastle, St Ives  and on the south coast eg Polperro, Looe, Fowey, Mevagissey, Falmouth, Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole.
Lands End, St Michaels Mount, The Eden project, The Minack Theatre, The lost Gardens of Heligan and many of the other beautiful gardens open to the public, also remain within an hours drive.

For guests staying at Penkerris, a drive along the North Cliffs, south from St Agnes, to St Ives is particularly delightful and nearby.  You pass Porthtowan and Portreath – both surfing beaches,  the entrance to Tehidy Park ( woods, a lake, picnic area), “Hells Mouth" (a dramatic view point) and Godrevy (white lighthouse, surfing beach, glorious cliffs – all National Trust)
